The International
Movement of Youth
Disabilities
We are the International Movement of Youth with Disabilities (IMYD) – a global movement created and led by young people with disabilities, aged 18 to 35. Our movement was born from a shared belief: we, as youth with disabilities, have the right to shape our future and make our voices heard.
Who we are
Founded on June 1, 2024, in Paris, France, IMYD fosters international cooperation and solidarity, ensuring that young people with disabilities are active participants in creating a more inclusive and equitable future.
Our purpose
As young people with disabilities, we founded IMYD to champion empowerment, representation, and international collaboration.
We are committed to:
- Empowering each other by exchanging information, sharing experiences, and creating opportunities for training and growth. Through these actions, we strengthen both our individual and collective leadership. This reflects our commitment to Article 32 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
Representing ourselves in international forums, advocating for our rights, and ensuring our voices shape decisions and policies that impact our lives. This work aligns with Article 29 of the CRPD.
IMYD unites us as leaders and changemakers, building a world where inclusivity, dignity, and equal opportunities are a reality for all young people with disabilities.
IMYD is a growing global movement of young people with disabilities.
Together, we are building a foundation for leadership, cooperation, and meaningful change.
What we’ve achieved so far
IMYD has united young leaders with disabilities from over 20 countries across four continents.
This historic gathering set the foundation for our movement, with participants engaging in interactive workshops and discussions on leadership, advocacy, and innovative approaches to creating change in their communities.
Our current priorities
We are building a strong and inclusive global network by creating a shared charter of values that reflects the vision and principles guiding IMYD. This collaborative effort ensures that the diverse voices within our community are represented. Looking ahead, we are preparing for our 2025 General Assembly.
Our long-term vision
IMYD envisions a world where young people with disabilities lead the way in fostering inclusivity, equity, and opportunity for all. By empowering our members to advocate and collaborate, we are creating a movement with lasting global impact, rooted in the values of dignity and solidarity.
Be part of a global movement.
IMYD brings together young people with disabilities, aged 18 to 35, from all over the world. We also welcome organizations that represent youth with disabilities to join our efforts.
